How Sessions Typically Work
Support conversations work best when the underlying numbers are on the table. The mediator structures the exchange of information and the discussion, while the parties — with advice of counsel — make the decisions.
Florida's child-support guidelines are the framework the parties' attorneys apply — the mediator does not run the worksheet. The session is where the underlying numbers, insurance costs, and childcare realities get on the table so the calculation counsel runs reflects them.

When this process is not a fit
Mediation is voluntary and only works when both people can speak for themselves and the conversation can stay balanced. It is usually the wrong tool when there is an injunction or a history of domestic violence that would compromise the process, when assets appear to be hidden, or when a party needs emergency court relief.
